Chettinad Style Chicken Soup | Kozhi Rasam

For each and every meal we start with a soup variety and for a non-veg addict like me chicken soup would be a whole-some treat. I like mutton soup rather than the chicken. But, near to my place I don’t find any shop for mutton with bones in it. A mutton soup won’t taste better without a bone. So I switched to chicken. If u need to try mutton soup jus replace it. The ingredients and the method are the same.

Always serve the soup literally very hot. The spices and the pepper in it will give instant relief for ur running nose and cough. Check my other recipe for running nose.

Ingredients:

½ kg Chicken (with bones)
Salt
Oil
½ - 1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
Coriander leaves (optional)

To grind

1 ½ tsp Pepper corns
¼ tsp fennel seeds/sombhu
½ tsp coriander seeds/dhaniya
1 onion
½ tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tomato (small)

To temper

Oil
1tsp cumin seeds/jeera
Curry leaves (as needed)

Method:

  • In a pan heat 1tsp of oil fry pepper corns, fennel seeds, coriander seeds.
  • Once the pepper starts to splutter add onions, ginger-garlic paste and tomatoes. Sauté it and grind into a smooth paste. Keep aside.

  • Clean the chicken bones and rinse with the turmeric powder well.
  • Pressure-cook the chicken with turmeric powder for 3-5 whistles.

  • Once the pressure comes down, open the lid and add the paste to it.
  • Add required amount of water to make as a soup form.
  • Check for salt and add chilli powder (adjust to the taste).

  • Allow it boil for about 5-8 minutes in medium flame.
  • Temper the items given.

  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
